Climate-proofing the city / Lessons from The Netherlands

November 1, 2018 / 5 minute video

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Netherlands last week, where I saw for myself how the Dutch are designing their cities to flood. As a country predominantly located below sea-level, we have a lot to learn from them as far as climate change resiliency is concerned. While I only saw a portion of these resiliency projects that are happening all over the country, what I did manage to find was highly intriguing. Especially floating neighborhoods. Those things are suh-weet.

Not too much analysis for this post, just playing witness to what I saw. I took a stab at taking and editing video, and while I definitely still have a lot to learn, I hope this gives you a sense of what these projects are doing at this point in time (ie. on a cold, blustery, October weekday). So grab some popcorn (maybe just a handful, because 5 minutes goes quickly) and enjoy!
